É um prato que combina com os dias frios. Este prato é feito a partir do curry, chamado no Japão de karê. Tem origem indiano mas foi adaptado ao paladar japonês a partir da Era Meiji, quando foi introduzido no Japão, quando se tornou um dos pratos mais populares. Além do kare raisu existem outras variações que os japoneses gostam bastante que são o kare udon (feito com macarrão) e o kare pan (feito com pão). Esse prato normalmente é servido com arroz branco. O kare raisu pode ser preparado de duas formas, a primeira (pode ser feito com o pó de curry), a segunda (comprar tabletes prontos).
